Ski Jyväskylä’s everyday operations have become easier and more streamlined in many areas thanks to Suomisport. Organizing training sessions and events – and tracking participation – is now much simpler. The club has made bold use of the platform’s features for a variety of purposes.
According to the club’s training coordinator, Milla Tiainen, Suomisport has particularly made it easier to manage training and events, but also to maintain the club’s membership register. The transition from previous practices to Suomisport went smoothly overall.
– Suomisport has already been widely used by other clubs and sports federations. I believe the platform has become increasingly familiar to many. This made the onboarding process easier for our club, Tiainen explains.
– Whenever support has been needed with the platform, we’ve acted as helping hands. Sometimes a solution has been found through email instructions, and other times we’ve provided guidance, for example, during training sessions. Within the club, know-how has been shared gradually. Once our staff learned to manage the platform, access rights were also extended to our coaches.
A real-time view of participants makes everyday operations easier
According to Tiainen, it’s convenient that Suomisport provides a real-time view of those attending training sessions. In addition, it’s easy to communicate any possible changes to participants through Suomisport.
– Suomisport has significantly simplified our daily routines. In my work, I use Suomisport alongside email and our club’s website. The amount of incoming messages has clearly decreased, and storing information is now more systematic. From a coach’s perspective, it’s convenient to know who to expect at training – for instance, if someone happens to be running late.
Signing up for activities is easy with just one user account
According to Tiainen, the feedback on Suomisport has been positive, and the implementation process has mostly gone smoothly.
– Even though the transition takes some time, it’s absolutely worth it. From a parent’s perspective, Suomisport is a big help. A child can be registered for hobbies and events across different sports using a single user account. Whether Suomisport is used for your own or your child’s sport activities, this “one platform approach” brings clarity to the whole experience, Tiainen adds.
Also part of the system are the Finnish Ski Association licences sold via Suomisport. The club can always see in real time who has purchased a licence and can also purchase them on behalf of athletes, individually or in bulk. Thanks to the integration between Suomisport and the Ski Association’s competition registration system, licence validity is automatically checked during the sign-up process.
Event management can be used in many ways
At Ski Jyväskylä, the event management tool has been used in creative ways.
– Especially during the pandemic, we had to come up with innovative solutions, which helped us think outside the box. For example, we couldn’t allow spectators at the junior national championships we hosted in winter 2021, so we created a Suomisport event for following the race via livestream. We shared the viewing link with those registered, and this way the competition atmosphere could be experienced even from the living room couch, Tiainen says.
