HSS – Member information stays up to date with Suomisport: the membership card doubles as a ferry ticket to the island

Helsingfors Segelsällskap (HSS) is Finland’s fourth-largest sailing club. Since 2022, Suomisport has helped digitalize HSS operations, with new features adopted step by step.

The club previously used a separate membership card app, but volunteers, members, and staff were not entirely satisfied with it. HSS decided to switch to Suomisport, replacing the old app and ensuring member data and the membership list would always stay up to date.

The Suomisport membership list makes life easier for many people in the club, from volunteers to staff. We always know that member information is accurate, as each person can only have one verified Sport account in the system, explains HSS Development Manager Rosa Lindqvist.

Keeping membership information current is especially important for HSS, as the Suomisport digital membership card provides access to various member benefits — like free ferry transport to the club’s island location in Liuskasaari, Helsinki.

We use Suomisport membership cards to grant our members free ferry rides to the island where the club is located. The card also gives members discounts at island restaurants and partner equipment stores, Lindqvist adds.

The membership card is easy to find in the Suomisport app. The club can also automate annual membership fee invoicing, with Suomisport notifying members of new fees or due dates. New enthusiasts can even apply for club membership directly through the Sport Search feature.

Expanding Suomisport use, step by step

In addition to member management, HSS uses Suomisport to streamline event registration for various club-organized activities, such as training sessions and social events. The app also plays a key role in member communication.

It’s essential that important updates reach our members quickly through the app. Beyond communication, we also use Suomisport for group management. Both adult and junior groups operate within Suomisport — registrations, training fees, group calendars, and messaging all happen in one place. Next season, we plan to expand usage to sell beginner courses and summer camps, Lindqvist shares.

A service that grows with its users

The Finnish Olympic Committee continuously develops Suomisport in collaboration with Vincit, and HSS has noticed that improvements genuinely reflect user feedback from clubs and athletes.

– Suomisport is a great service that evolves based on real club needs. We have a long wish list for Suomisport, and it’s been wonderful to see that our requests are genuinely heard. Suomisport keeps users informed about upcoming updates, and the platform is truly being built for the people using it. We’re gradually adopting more and more Suomisport features. Well done to the Olympic Committee and Suomisport — keep up the great work, says Lindqvist.
