Suomisport is a digital service for sports and physical activity, which is used by sports clubs and sports federations as well as the people who take part in their activities. All sports services are available through the same platform and app, which makes daily sports-related activities easier for club members, parents, federation and club operators, volunteers and coaches.
Suomisport is jointly produced by the Finnish Olympic Committee and sports federations without commercial objectives. The international IT company Vincit Oy is Suomisport’s technological development partner. Suomisport is developed in cooperation with sports federations and clubs based on user feedback and needs. Suomisport has been developed since 2017.
More than 700,000 Finns have an account in Suomisport. More than 4,000 sports clubs and sports federations have used Suomisport’s services. Suomisport is an online shop for sports clubs and federations, through which anyone can purchase sports services and products. The payment transaction between users and sports organisations is handled digitally without invoicing. In 2022, the monetary transactions totalled over 100 million euros. This has enabled federations and clubs to free up time from administrative tasks towards their core focus – engaging children, young people and adults in physical activity.
Suomisport accumulates sports-related data that affirms the social impact of sports. The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare has also used the data in projects to promote health, for example. As the number of sports, clubs and individuals using Suomisport increases, the service gains more and more general and socially significant data on the physical and hobby activities of the Finnish population.
Suomisport is used by creating a personal Sport account in the service. The Sport account forms the core of the entire service: it is used to update personal basic information and view information related to sports activities in real time. Parents can link their child’s Sport account to their own account and manage their children’s affairs and details – all in one place. The Sport account can also be used to handle payments quickly and easily with a wide range of payment methods.
Through the Sport account, all users can manage their own information. The account requires a personal identity code, which prevents anyone from creating more than one account in the service. This principle is in line with the data protection requirements. It ensures that personal data is protected and the sports-related information collected in Suomisport is reliable. Suomisport features first-rate data security and data protection measures, and the information is always up to date.
The Sport account provides users access to all sports services: hobbies and events, training calendars, payments, messages and customised sports-related benefits. The service helps parents and children manage their hobby activities regardless of the sport. Suomisport can be accessed through the Suomisport app or the browser-based version.
Clubs can use Suomisport to centralise their most important operations in one place, comply with the GDPR and Associations Act, and save time and resources while providing their members with modern services.
In Suomisport, the information related to each club’s operations is always in real time. Invoicing is replaced with digital payments, and the clubs save time in administrative tasks. The convenient Suomisport app facilitates day-to-day activities. It brings together the individuals engaging in sports and the parents, coaches and club officials. Thanks to Suomisport’s electronic financial administration integrations, the income received by clubs is automatically entered correctly in the books.
Suomisport does not have monthly, yearly or starting fees. This means that clubs can begin using the service free of charge. A small service fee is charged for each payment transaction in the context of using the payment functionalities of the service.
